We have established the following 2025 waste management and recycling goals:
* Per ton of production. Compared to baseline data available for 2021.
As part of MS-168, we constantly assess how to improve operations and formulations to minimize waste generation. We manage waste reduction and recycling at the facility level and gather and analyze the data in our data management system. In addition, many RPM MS-168 continuous improvement projects focus on waste management.
For example, at Rust-Oleum's Hagerstown plant, a shift supervisor identified an opportunity for yield improvement on a high-speed aerosol line. By collaborating with the line engineer and vendor, paint waste was reduced by 50%. This initiative resulted in a cost savings of more than $950,000 and contributed to a reduction in hazardous waste generation, leading to lower emissions associated with waste transportation.
Partnering to Enhance Circularity
We are committed to collaborating with partners to divert waste from the landfill. In the U.S., multiple RPM locations work with WM to identify new or expand existing recycling programs. In the UK, our teams are engaged in similar efforts with waste management company Biffa.
HIGHLIGHT
Fibergrate is using MS-168 tools to reduce waste at two plants. In Querétaro, México, we reduced 2023 landfill waste by 76,700 pounds, compared to 2022. In Stephenville, Texas, we have significantly reduced scrap and improved our reject rate.
